Position Summary

We are currently hiring a permanent full time Community Mental Health Worker 1 to join our Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) Complex Care Housing team at the Kamloops Mental Health in Kamloops, B.C.

The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a dynamic, community-based setting and brings a strong understanding of mental health and substance use issues. They are skilled at fostering independence and promoting recovery through psychosocial rehabilitation and harm reduction principles. This person is patient, non-judgmental, and comfortable working one-on-one with clients in their homes and the broader community. They possess the ability to model and support the development of daily living skills, including wellness management, budgeting, communication, and community access. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator who can establish trust and rapport with clients, work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and navigate community resources to enhance client outcomes. Strong problem‑solving skills, adaptability, and a commitment to empowering clients in their recovery journey are essential for this role.

What will you work on?

The Complex Care Program supports people who face significant mental health and substance use and/or medical challenges that result in difficulty finding and maintaining a home.

The Community Mental Health Worker 1 functions as part of an integrated multidisciplinary Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Team and performs a variety of life skills and general support duties involving clients who are living in their own housing. Reporting to the HCIS Manager or designate, and in accordance with established treatment plans, this position provides services within a psychosocial rehabilitation and harm‑reduction framework for the assigned client population(s) with severe mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders. Provides support to clients in the development and maintenance of the skills required to live successfully in their own homes. The Community Mental Health Worker 1 is expected to engage clients in various community settings as people with full potential and as meaningful collaborators in their own service planning, delivery and evaluation.

Scheduling Information:

Shift types are days and shifts of work are from 08:30 to 19:30 hours.

Qualfications
  • Grade 12
  • Certificate in a field relevant to the position (such as Community Mental Health Certificate, Human Service Worker Certificate, Social Services Worker Certificate, etc.)
  • One year recent related experience working with the assigned client population(s) experiencing mental health and/or substance use problems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Food Safe certificate required
  • Current valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 5)
