The Opportunity

Reporting to the Clinical Manager Emergency Mental Health and Addiction Services the Clinical Leader Operations supports the efficient and effective operation of the unit / service by assisting with the planning organization and directing of clinical care consistent with the philosophy objectives and vision of the Mental Health Program and the IWK Health Centre. The Clinical Leader Operations role models professional nursing practice fosters the development of an environment in which the desired outcome of all activities is the enhancement of patient care while demonstrating strong leadership organizational and communication skills.

Hours of Work

Monday Friday (7 : 00 am 3 : 00 pm) Flexibility may be required regarding schedule

Your Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Nursing required (candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered).
• Registered or eligible to be registered with Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required.
• Minimum five (5) years relevant clinical nursing experience required
• Charge nurse experience in an acute inpatient mental health unit preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and practice required
• Sound understanding of and commitment to family centred care required
• Demonstrated time management delegation and organizational skills required
• Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team required
• Demonstrated expert critical thinking problem solving and decision making abilities required
• Demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills required
• Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients / families colleagues and community partners required
• Demonstrated expert negotiation and conflict resolution skills required
• Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning and professional development required
• Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification required
• Current successful completion of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (BLS) Program within the last 12 months or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate required.
• Previous leadership experience preferred
• CNA Certification in Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing an asset
• Post Graduate Program / Course is Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing an asset
• Completed continuing education in leadership or team training an asset
• Adaptable and flexible in responding to changes in patient / family and unit / service needs
• Demonstrated competencies in the promotion of teamwork / team building through consultation and collaboration with all stakeholders
• Competency in other languages considered an asset.
