About the Position
This position falls under the Defense Health Agency - Atlantic Network at the 633RD Medical Group Langley, under the Directorate of Clinical Support-Clinical Laboratory, performing a variety of procedures including complex analyses and infrequently requested tests; evaluating abnormal results; using and maintaining equipment; and setting up and monitoring quality controls.

Duties
- Select the procedures which are appropriate for the request for service and congruent with patient considerations.
- Analyze specimens using equipment, instruments, or techniques.
- Prepare reagents, assemble equipment, verify correct instrument operation.
- Perform difficult and complex medical laboratory diagnostic testing on specimens in the chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, immunohematology, and microbiology sections of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) laboratory.
- Operate high complexity analyzers and microscopes, centrifuges, incubators, and balances that require very fine distinctions and many extremely delicate and exacting steps.
- Identify unusual results or discrepancies/conditions which cause erroneous results (instrument malfunctions, conditions of test performance, reaction systems, and/or test procedures used).
- Evaluate the validity of data in relation to the test system and assay procedures.
- Advise on course of action to follow when values obtained from standard or control sample values are unacceptable.
- Develop protocols and drafts Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Test and develop quality control methods, calculate the mean, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, and determining statistical significance.
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and modifying various computer applications.
- Provides hands‑on training and mentorship to students, ensuring compliance with standards and operational proficiency.
Requirements

- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- May require Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) outside of the commuting area 5%.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Certification from the ASCP, AMT or other board or registry deemed comparable by OASD(HA) or their designee (CCLM) as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist Per DODM 6440.02 Enclosure 3, 19. g. (1).
