Program Overview – Housing Operations & Building Services - St. Hilda’s, Housing Services (800 Vaughan Road, Toronto, ON)

Our Building Services team plays a vital role in creating safe, welcoming, and well‑maintained spaces across WoodGreen’s properties. From preventative maintenance to emergency repairs, we ensure every building meets the highest standards of care. The team handles everything from preparing residential suites for new tenants to upgrading offices and supporting programs across the organization—always with a focus on quality, safety, and compliance.

As a Cleaner

You’ll report to the Supervisor, Building Services, and will play a key role in our day-to-day operations, keeping our buildings spotless and functional. You’ll take on a variety of responsibilities—from routine janitorial work and occasional light maintenance to ensuring security when senior staff are off duty. This is a hands‑on role where your attention to detail and reliability will make a real difference for our residents and staff.

What You Will Do
  • Keep our spaces spotless and safe by performing routine and emergency cleaning, including floors, washrooms, stairwells, windows, laundry rooms, elevators, and garbage chute rooms.
  • Manage waste efficiently by placing garbage bins in designated areas for scheduled City or contractor pick-up.
  • Operate essential equipment such as garden tractors and floor buffers to maintain grounds and interiors.
  • Ensure a welcoming environment by cleaning public areas and offices, vacuuming, and mopping all assigned spaces.
  • Handle supplies with care—including heavy lifting when needed.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies to keep residents and staff safe.
  • Support organizational needs by assisting other departments and setting up meeting rooms for events.
  • Maintain tools and equipment to ensure everything is in top working order.
  • Safeguard property by carrying building keys and an assigned phone for communication.
  • Follow all safety standards and policies to ensure compliance.
  • Stay active on the job with the ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
What You Bring to the Team
  • High School Diploma.
  • Previous cleaning experience in commercial or residential settings, showcasing your ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Strong verbal and written English proficiency to interact effectively with residents, staff, and team members.
