Job description

The Opportunity

ZE Power Engineering is an innovative, industry-leading company providing engineering services to the electric utility industry. We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer to assist with administrative tasks and support the company. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative team environment at a fast-growing company.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the technical quality of engineering work products prepared by Junior Engineers, including computer models, spreadsheet calculations, design reports, drawings, and site visit assessments.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams, including geotechnical engineers and client reviewers.
  • Ensure design conformance to client and company standards.
  • Prepare layouts, conceptual designs, calculations, and illustrations for distribution and transmission civil/structural projects, focusing on underground structure design, structural/dimensional calculations, field work, drawings, material lists, and work instructions.
  • Assist in project support activities such as project coordination, strategic planning, client support, and business analysis to support business development and project management departments.
  • Support project documentation, including technical specifications, tender documents, reports, and calculations.
  • Interface with other design disciplines, coordinate with stakeholders, and assist team leads and managers.
  • Perform site visits to project locations.

Qualifications

  • A degree in civil engineering from a recognized institution, specializing in Structural Engineering for steel and concrete designs.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration or eligibility to register with EGBC.
  • Civil engineering design experience in an electrical utility environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical utility civil standards, power transmission, and distribution networks is an asset.
  • Experience with BC Hydro's design systems and standards is a strong asset.
  • Experience with finite element modeling and analysis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel to job sites and head office as needed.
  • Familiarity with BC Hydro standards and design codes such as Transmission Maintenance Standard 80.4001-01, ASCE/SEI 48, ASTM A394, CSA standards, IEEE 691, among others.
