Duties

Working in the Civil Aviation Directorate at Transport Canada, Civil Aviation Safety Inspectors (CASI) - Airworthiness are responsible for performing inspection activities as they relate to individuals and organizations involved in aircraft and aeronautical product maintenance and manufacturing. CASIs are responsible to ensure compliance with the civil aviation regulatory framework, to ensure and promote aircraft airworthiness and a proactive safety management system culture, for the safety of civil aviation in Canada and abroad.

What you will be doing

  • Conducting regular inspection activity of approved organizations, writing reports and following up on areas of concern.
  • Reviewing and approving company documentation relating to policy and procedure for aircraft operation and maintenance.
  • Review, inspection and certification of applicants for AMO, ATO, Air Operator, Manufacturer and AME licence.
  • Investigating and providing technical support relating to aviation incidents, accidents and continuing airworthiness.
  • CASIs must be skilled communicators capable of working effectively with others in a challenging environment, exercising good judgment, making effective decisions based on risk and adapting to different needs of stakeholders. They must be able to influence change and respond effectively to stressful situations. In the course of ensuring regulatory requirements are met, inspectors carry significant responsibility and accountability as their decisions have a direct impact on the transportation system and safety of the travelling public.

    Work environment

    The key activities of this position require frequent travel locally, regionally, and sometimes nationally. Typically many work tasks will be performed in an office or telework environment, or in various indoor and outdoor aviation / industrial environments such as aircraft hangars and airport ramps and under varying weather conditions.

    This is an anticipatory process. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff positions with Transport Canada Civil Aviation in Ontario Region. It may also be used to staff other similar positions within Transport Canada.

    OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION :

    Valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence.

    EXPERIENCE : Recent

  • experience working as a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) with Certifying Authority in a Canadian Maintenance or Manufacturing Organization, including the performance of complex activities in a wide variety of situations while demonstrating an increasing level of responsibility.
  • Recent : experience acquired within the last 7 years.

    Experience in the supervision or management of quality programs that include quality control and / or quality assurance systems.
