The Opportunity

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as Casual Early Childhood Educator (ECE). This opening is specifically for a position on our ECE Supply List. This is a 10-month position (September to June) to start as soon as possible.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing temporary and/or short-term coverage for ECE employee absences on an as-needed basis in both elementary and secondary English and French Immersion Programs.

Location:

All geographical areas of the Board including North Wellington, Centre Wellington, East Wellington, Guelph, Orangeville, Dufferin County and Shelburne; however Casual Supply EAs may select specified areas in which they would like to work.

Hours of work/FTE

As this is a casual position, there is no guaranteed number of hours per week. However, a casual employee with full availability could work full-time (1.0 FTE; 32.5 hours per week) depending on need.

As a member of the ECE Supply List, you will have the opportunity to apply for vacant permanent or temporary positions as they arise, with possible consideration over external applicants.

Rate of Pay / Salary Range:

$30.92 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025, plus applicable vacation pay, in accordance with Employment Standards Act

Board Information:

10 months; ESSP-DECE Union

Reporting to the Principal, the ECE will be part of the Early Learning team.

Responsibilities
  • In this role, the ECE will collaborate with the classroom teacher to implement a full-day early learning program within a classroom setting which will enhance children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. The ECE will share responsibilities with other educators for instruction, assessment, and supervision as well as communication with families and school teams. The ECE will also establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other community services providers working with children. The ECE may be required to provide supervision and age-appropriate (learning) programming for groups of students as part of the extended day program as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications:

  • 2 year College Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Minimum 6 months of recent experience working with 4 or 5 year olds within a registered childcare setting, early learning centre or educational setting
  • Knowledge of and experience in early learning and childcare programs
  • Knowledge of the early acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Positive recommendation from current Supervisor
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full-day early learning program
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff and general public
  • Understanding a commitment to confidentiality
  • Basic computer and technological skills
  • Ability to speak French is a definite asset
