MATRIX is seeking a Camp Maintenance Technician on a rotational basis for a project located in Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut. Due to the remote access to the job sites, resourcefulness will be a key aspect to the success of this role. You are team oriented, motivated, and have an acute eye for detail, accuracy, and excellent skill with prioritizing tasks. This position is fully remote, in camp.

Position Duties
  • Make minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems, and contact site tradespersons for major repairs
  • Oversee a maintenance labourer and ensure that position is fully engaged and working safely and productively.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, like painting and drywall repair, replace lighting, shelving, door knobs etc.
  • Respond to requests from residents for minor repairs in a timely fashion
  • Perform daily inspections to the building systems
  • Provide general assistance to skilled trades persons such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters and plumbers
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of rooms to the arrival of a new residents or guests.
  • Co-ordinate parking, access, and electrical shut-down with tradespeople
  • Ensure that fire security equipment is working, and deal with site security staff on security and access issues
  • Attend to emergency situations, such as floods or fires.
  • Help ensure camp guests follow all health, fire, safety and security policies
  • Communicate with guests and manage expectations when projects cause disruptions
  • Small appliance repairs, installations and set up is highly desired
  • Diagnosing bigger issues and knowing when to get the right people involved - plumbers, electricians etc
  • Going through the dorms and doing daily, weekly, monthly quarterly PM's
  • Replacing batons, door knobs, locks, cabinet and drawer handles etc
  • Replacing faucets, painting, shoveling snow
Requirements
  • Level 1 First Aid Certification or equivalent 2-day course - required
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Facilities maintenance certificate or equivalent, is highly desired.
  • Physically demanding job. Ability to lift safely a minimum of 50 lbs is required.
  • Proficient computer skills. MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, Office 365) is required.
  • Management, organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Positive attitude and a desire to help your team succeed
Qualifications or proficiency with the following
  • Previous experience working in a remote camp setting
  • Familiar using a Satellite phone
  • Trades experience a definite asset.
  • Handy and adaptable
