A regional recreation district in Lake Cowichan is looking for a Camp Assistant for summer 2026. The role involves assisting with day camps, encouraging safe play for children aged 6-12, and working under the supervision of experienced staff. The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to work as a Camp Assistant at Cowichan Lake Recreation for summer 2026. Our summer positions provide the opportunity for you to learn and be mentored by experienced staff, gain valuable coaching feedback/support throughout your employment and gain valuable training courses that can be utilized in future careers.
Under the supervision of the Recreation Programmer II, the Camp Assistant assists the Camp Leader with the weekly day camps at the recreation centre. This position assists with encouraging children in positive & safe play; the general supervision of participants; general set-up/take-down of day camps; and maintaining overall tidiness. There is an educational component to daily activities plus encouragement to become more active and promote physical literacy and healthier lifestyles.
This position is available for a period of 11 weeks commencing June 22, 2026,and continuing until September 4, 2026, subject to enrolment and funding. Hours of work may be scheduled based on enrolment and may vary up to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Additional part-time or casual, on-call opportunities may also be available. There may be opportunities to retain casual employment throughout the year if you have a desire to further your work experience in the recreation field.
This temporary position is non-union, and is compensated at $23.18perhour, which is $19.79 per hour plus 6% pay in lieu of benefits, 6% pay in lieu of vacation and 5.2% pay in lieu of statutory holidays. (2025 rates)
