Job Description

We are currently seeking a permanent Bylaw Enforcement Officer to join our team. At the County of Grande Prairie, we believe that our primary purpose is to provide quality of life in safe, viable communities. As a Bylaw Enforcement Officer, you can help to promote our vision and values by educating, investigating, and enforcing select regulatory Municipal Bylaws. You will conduct investigations and inspections, issue violation tickets and warnings, and report daily activities. The position conducts animal control duties including patrols, impounding animals, responding to complaints and conducting investigations.

Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Preference may be given if an applicant has TPR (formerly PPCT), Asp Baton within three years of application
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Animal Protection Act and the Dangerous Dog Act
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Municipal Government Act and municipal bylaws relating to unsightly premises investigations, non-moving traffic offences and other offences found in other regulated bylaws.
  • Demonstrated animal health and well-being knowledge, skills and abilities to include: care of domestic animals, knowledge of animal and zoonotic diseases,
  • Ability to determine breeds and species, sex and age. Ability to recognize signs of animal distress, neglect, abuse and cruelty
  • Knowledge of law enforcement techniques, principles, practices, and court procedures
  • Skilled in animal capture and restraint methods, and the ability to interpret animal body language
Qualifications
  • Clean Criminal Record Check and Driver's Abstract and a valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Minimum 18 years of age with a Grade 12 Diploma
  • Successful completion of PARE (a physical abilities test)
  • Excellent computer skills including Office 365
