About the Business Intelligence Specialist

Alcool NB Liquor is currently undergoing an exciting multi-year business transformation project, including the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365, a new ecommerce platform and the Microsoft Fabric data platform, which provides end-to-end analytic capabilities.

We are seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist to join our team. The role involves supporting the implementation of a modern analytics platform and ensuring scalable data solutions that meet organizational needs. Expertise in ingesting, processing, and transforming data using Microsoft technologies, including Fabric and Power Platform tools, is required. The successful candidate will collaborate with various departments to create and test data workflows, dashboards and reports.

Reporting to the Business Intelligence Functional Lead, this role will integrate existing BI activities into modern analytics solutions, including migrating reports and datasets to Microsoft Fabric and aligning them with the new system architecture. As a process expert, you will work across teams to enhance our BI capabilities, ensuring alignment with best practices and evolving business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand business challenges and opportunities for using data to enhance operational effectiveness and support informed decision-making.
  • Implement BI solutions that support reporting and strategic insights, ensuring they are performant, user-friendly, and meet business requirements.
  • Participate in workshops to gather and define data and reporting requirements.
  • Develop BI deliverables including pipelines, data models, and reports using Microsoft Fabric components such as Dataflows, Lakehouses, and PowerBI.
  • Support testing activities, including SIT and UAT, to validate data mapping, transformation logic, and report accuracy between source and target systems.
  • Apply and promote best practices that balance business needs with industry-leading approaches.
  • Follow established data governance practices and standards to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Create and maintain documentation for data models, pipelines, and reporting logic for knowledge sharing and supportability.
Qualifications
  • What you need to be successful:
  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Computer Science, or similar. While a formal degree or diploma is preferred, we value practical experience and are open to considering candidates with equivalent experience in lieu of educational qualifications.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in data analysis, engineering, modeling, and insights development.
  • Proficiency in Power BI for data visualization and report development.
  • Experienced in building scalable data warehouses, data modeling, and using cloud platform tools such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Data Factory.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to translate complex data into actionable insights, with strong technical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Understanding of Performance Measurement Frameworks (PMFs) including metrics, dimensions, benchmarks, and KPIs.
  • Strong knowledge of database platforms and storage solutions such as SQL Server and Azure Data Lake Storage.
  • Hands-on experience with the Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate).
  • Proficient in scripting and debugging using T-SQL, PySpark, M, and DAX.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build strong professional relationships in functional and technical areas.
  • Confidentiality and discretion required.
  • Assets (nice-to-have):
  • Experience in Retail, CPG, FMCG or beverage alcohol industries.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or another ERP.
  • Knowledge of data governance and metadata management.
  • Microsoft certifications related to analytics (PL-300, DP-600, DP-700).
  • Project Management skills.

Work location
  • The Project Galileo Office is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
