Business Development & Communications Manager

This is a hybrid position based out of Cycling Canada’s office locations in: Ottawa, ON, Bromont, QC or the Greater Toronto Area.

Cycling Canada is the national governing body for cycling in Canada, established in 1882. The organization aims to inspire Canadians to cycle and develop the sport across the country, from amateur to Olympic/Paralympic levels.

Our mandate is to holistically develop our sport, putting more Canadians on bikes from coast to coast and more Canadians on podiums around the world. To that end, Cycling Canada has a bold strategic plan to transform our sport in Canada over the next ten years. We will engage, unite and support our partners to collectively develop our community through high quality programs, events and services that are aligned from coast-to-coast.

Summary of the role

The Business Development & Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of plans and activities in the areas of marketing, communications and revenue generation that drive Cycling Canada’s revenue diversification and elevate the profile of Cycling Canada’s brand through focused communications strategies. This will be essential to supporting the organization’s strategic direction particularly as it pertains to driving growth in resources, profile and organizational excellence. The Business Development & Communications Manager will play an important role in equal parts revenue generation (fundraising, sponsorship & e-commerce) and communications.

Specific Responsibilities

As Business Development & Communications Manager, you will lead Cycling Canada’s communications and growth initiatives across media, digital, events, brand, and revenue programs.

Media & PR
  • Develop and execute an integrated media/PR strategy and communications calendar
  • Build and maintain media lists and relationships; manage press releases, advisories, and media requests
  • Strengthen platforms and analytics to improve communications performance
  • Oversee website content strategy and calendar; represent CC at select events as media liaison
Digital
  • Lead digital strategy and ongoing optimization using analytics and tools
  • Ensure content aligns with Cycling Canada’s strategic focus areas (community, grassroots, events, gracious champions)
  • Manage web developer relationships and contracts to support website maintenance and performance
Events & Brand
  • Support planning and promotion of key marketing, fundraising, and stakeholder events, including PR and digital promotion
  • Lead brand strategy and implementation; serve as primary contact for brand usage across Cycling Canada properties
Revenue & Partnerships
  • Lead e-commerce strategy and supporter communications
  • Manage sponsorship servicing and activations; support new partner/donor/affiliate development
  • Support distribution and maintenance of member partner discounts
Qualifications
  • University or college degree in Communications, Business/Commerce, Marketing, Sports Management or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Communications or Business Development role with 1 year in a supervisory capacity
  • Bilingual in both English and French languages (oral and written) considered a major asset
  • G class driver’s license, or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for the sport of cycling considered an asset
Travel

On an occasional basis, the Communications Manager will be required to travel to meetings, events or program activities within Canada and occasionally internationally.
