Position Summary

Overview: Under the general direction of the Building Systems Manager and/or Director of Operations, the Building Systems Technician performs duties related to the maintenance and repair of the venue's mechanical operating systems.

This role offers an annual salary of $55,000 CAD - $75,000 CAD.

This position will remain open until October 31, 2025.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the daily operation and maintenance of mechanical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) at the South Okanagan Events Centre, Okanagan Hockey Group Training Centre, Penticton Trade & Convention Centre, and Memorial Arena.
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks on mechanical equipment.
  • Work from general instructions and specifications with minimal supervision.
  • Operate equipment such as high lifts, forklifts, ladders, drills, torches, saws, grinders, etc.
  • Ensure tasks are completed timely according to standards.
  • Maintain detailed work records.
  • Receive and maintain supplies, keep storage areas organized.
  • Work effectively in a service-oriented environment with changing priorities.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, contractors, and facility users.
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, and extended days.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Specialized training or diploma in HVAC maintenance or related mechanical systems.
  • 2–4 years’ experience in maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and related systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Windows-based computer programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC, BC Safety Authority, and CSA standards.
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations.

Physical Demands:

While performing duties, the employee must stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, work at heights, sit, handle objects, reach, talk, and hear. Occasionally, lifting/moving up to 50 pounds is required. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
