Position Overview

We’re looking for a Building Automation and Access Control Technician who’s ready to take on a key role in maintaining the smart infrastructure behind the City’s facilities. The successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  1. Completion of Red Seal Program in Electrical, HVAC or Carpentry.
  2. Two (2) years’ previous experience with access control systems, security systems and camera systems maintenance and repair, within the last five (5) years.
  3. Two (2) years’ previous experience in complex building automation systems management and planning, within the last five (5) years.
  4. Ability to obtain BC Security Worker License within four (4) months.
  5. Proficient in basic Word and basic Excel as demonstrated through testing. (70% pass rate required)
  6. Ability to obtain a Skilled Trades BC qualification as a Security Systems Technician within eighteen (18) months.
  7. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
  8. Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Reliability Security Clearance. If you are unable to obtain or maintain an RCMP Reliability Security Clearance, your employment with the City will be terminated. (To be considered for an RCMP Reliability Security Clearance, applicants must be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Resident Status in Canada. Note: individuals with Permanent Resident Status must have resided (physically present) in Canada for the last five (5) consecutive years).


For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position. This is a CUPE local 900 position.

This position will remain open until filled. This posting may close anytime after July 4, 2025 if a qualified candidate is found.
