Position Summary:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the BAS Technician is responsible for programming, commissioning, and system verification of electronic end devices and third-party integration devices connected to the building automation system. This includes a strong working knowledge of HVAC components, software, electronic technology, and networking. The position requires flexible working hours based on project needs and collaboration with external parties (consultants/commissioning agents) for system verification (LEED).

Responsibilities:
  1. Inspect, test & troubleshoot low voltage power equipment and systems, network communications, end devices, peripherals, valves & actuators, relays, and sensors during commissioning.
  2. Commission BAS systems, perform end-to-end verification, and report anomalies.
  3. Assist in verifying the installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical and electronic equipment related to BAS.
  4. Use software to simulate sequences of operations to verify proper operating parameters and performance.
  5. Program HVAC equipment via software and verify system performance.
  6. Provide commissioning verification checklists to the Project Manager upon project completion.
  7. Maintain a strong understanding of HVAC equipment, mechanical components, control strategies, and theories.
  8. Ensure inspection, testing, adjusting, and evaluation of electronic components conform to specifications and manufacturer recommendations.
  9. Verify network connectivity and integration with third-party systems for communication via software.
  10. Calibrate electrical or electronic equipment and instruments per manuals and instructions.
  11. Collect operational data and assist in preparing specifications and reports.
  12. Work at heights using proper fall protection equipment.
  13. Follow proper shutdown/lockout procedures for electrical systems.
  14. Operate mobile powered elevating devices as required.
  15. Commute to and from work sites regularly, potentially during day or night shifts.
  16. Work off ladders at heights of 10-12 feet for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
Qualifications:
  1. Knowledge of automation systems, HVAC, electrical concepts, and building operations.
  2. Skills in programming, commissioning, and graphic design.
  3. Advanced troubleshooting skills for DDC/Mechanical services.
  4. Understanding of control theory and control concepts.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, and PC skills.
  6. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
  7. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  8. CET designation is an asset.
