About the Position

This permanent full-time position works to support children and youth in a community group home. Your primary responsibility is to provide awake and proactive overnight supervision. Utilizing the Teaching Family Model as a holistic approach, you will develop safe, stable relationships and teach skills that increase self-efficacy, with the goal of children and youth living and thriving in their families and communities.

Responsibilities
  • Implementing and documenting hourly room checks
  • Investigating any unusual night time activity in the house and contacting on-call or supervisory staff as needed to assist with any emergencies
  • Managing crises and escalated behaviours
  • Using a trauma informed approach
  • Supporting children and youth with strategies to enhance their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, and to increase their sense of belonging
  • Completing day to day household tasks such as cooking, cleaning and other duties as required
  • Transporting youth to early morning appointments, school or in case of emergency
  • Working shifts at all group homes across Calgary and Airdrie as needed
  • Adhere to workplace protocols regarding pets/service animals in group homes, including reporting any allergy risks or concerns.
Qualifications
  • Experience providing trauma-informed, family-sensitive and culturally responsive care
  • Willing to work an unstructured work week, including evenings, overnights, mornings, weekends and holidays
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Candidates must show proof of a class 5 Alberta driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract. Candidates must also agree to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle, and consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider’s requirements. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines and CTH policy.
  • A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check must be completed prior to commencement.
  • Ability to manage a crisis situation in a therapeutic manner, and, if necessary, intervene physically to the risk of harm to children and staff. TCI training is provided.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people of all ages.
  • Detail oriented and organized; able to manage multiple priorities at the same time.
  • Eager to learn and carry out the principles and philosophy of CTH and the Teaching Family Model.
  • Compassionate, with a positive, empathetic and relational approach.
  • Experience working in Community Group Care or other “in-care” programs (preferred).
  • A diploma or degree in a related field is preferred, and previous experience working with vulnerable children and families is an asset; a combination of education and experience will be considered.

The pay range for this role is:

21.65 - 21.65 CAD per hour (Calgary & Area)
