Your opportunity

Reporting to the Registrar, the Associate Registrar is responsible for providing direction, leadership and coaching to a team of Academic Advisors within the New College Registrar’s Office. Along with all of the student services responsibilities, the Associate Registrar supports the Registrar with providing people leadership, training and development, planning, project development and management, registrarial practices and partnerships. This is a full‑time, term/contract position up to February 28, 2027.

Your responsibilities will include
  • Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual’s background
  • Interpreting academic regulations, program and degree requirements
  • Providing case management support to students requiring the coordination of multiple services
  • Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Analyzing service delivery and/or internal processes and recommending improvements
  • Following rules and procedural processes related to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)
  • Directing the activities of a team and collaborating with the Registrar to build and support team success
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in adult education, training and development, psychology, student development, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in student academic and financial advising, and overseeing administrative procedures (e.g. petitions and appeals, degree requirements, etc.) in a university setting, preferably in a registrar’s office
  • Experience interpreting, applying and advising on rules, guidelines, and procedures
  • Experience working with and advising academically at‑risk students
  • Experience with developing and facilitating workshops and seminars
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and proven ability to lead, coach, train and motivate staff
  • Experience analyzing and redesigning workflow/business service processes to enhance efficiencies and align with organizational goals
  • Sound knowledge of best practices in advising and student services
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Advanced skills with ROSI/ACORN, Degree Explorer, or other similar enterprise database solutions/CRM systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated time‑management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi‑task, organize work, and meet tight deadlines while paying attention to detail
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to provide effective guidance and advice to students in a responsive, empathetic, thoughtful, and discreet manner
  • Knowledge and understanding of equity, diversity, decolonization, and inclusion in the context of a post‑secondary environment
