Overview

The McGill University Department of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), invites applications for a Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Research) with a focus on translational oncology, cancer cell biology, and/or biomedical engineering. The professorial rank will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The position is offered in the Division of Thoracic Surgery within the Department of Surgery and the Cancer Research Program at the RI-MUHC, with potential co-appointments to the Goodman Cancer Institute and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Department of Surgery is a leader in academic medicine and supports innovative clinical programs across teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will join an academic, high-volume Division of Thoracic Surgery at the MUHC, a major teaching hospital affiliated with McGill University, located in Montreal, Quebec.

Responsibilities
  • Develop an independent, externally funded research program of the highest international standards in their area of expertise, including interdisciplinary collaborations with partner units within the Cancer Research Program of the RI-MUHC, the Goodman Cancer Institute, and the Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Disseminate research findings through high-impact peer-reviewed publications and other knowledge translation activities.
  • Participate in McGill’s academic mission, including teaching, supervision of graduate students, and service to the scholarly community.
  • Contribute to the research mission of RI-MUHC and McGill University.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
Qualifications and Education
  • Ph.D. with significant post-doctoral experience; post-doctoral fellowship in cancer research with evidence of exceptional research achievements.
  • A compelling research vision aligned with the McGill Division of Thoracic Surgery’s mission to improve outcomes for chest and foregut diseases and malignancies.
  • Proven published experience in cancer biology and/or bioengineering.
  • Strong research productivity and ability to attract competitive funding.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Fluency in English is essential; working knowledge of French or commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment is preferred.
