Eligibility

Canadian citizens or permanent residents living within a 45 km radius of the position. Applications from outside the radius may be considered if applicants from within are insufficient.

Overview

Statistics Canada is committed to an inclusive work environment. The Census of Population is conducted annually to collect demographic, social and economic information on Canadian people and housing units. The census supports federal, provincial and municipal planning, policy development and grant distribution.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in planning, organizing and controlling census field operations for an assigned area.
  • Train and supervise a team of supervisors and coordinate their activities.
  • Monitor, analyze and evaluate field operations by reviewing activity reports.
  • Authorize employees’ weekly payments, expenses and allowances.
  • Monitor staff performance and productivity, resolving collection, staff and pay issues.
  • Promote respondent participation and implement regional communication strategies.
  • Respond to public inquiries.
  • Collaborate with other census employees (FOSs, AMPs, RCs, MAs, RECs, FOMs) to resolve collection, processing, and pay issues.
  • Work closely with the Recruitment Clerk and Field Operations Manager to meet targets.

Qualifications
Education
  • Secondary school diploma.
  • Or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Essential Experience
  • Managing workloads, delegating tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Using computer functions: email, word processing, spreadsheets, slide shows, virtual meeting invites, etc.
  • Experience in at least one of the following:
    • Large‑scale project with competing deadlines and conflicting priorities.
    • Supervising a team, assigning work and managing performance.
Essential Competencies
  • Showing initiative and being action oriented.
  • Effective written communication.
Asset Experience
  • Delivering training.
  • Conducting recruitment activities.
  • Working on a previous census of population.
  • Working with Indigenous peoples or in Indigenous communities.
  • Supervising a data collection operation.
Additional Requirements
  • Language: English essential; Bilingual imperative – BBB/BBB or CBC/CBC.
  • Competencies: integrity and respect, thinking things through, working effectively with others, adaptability, effective oral communication.
  • Ability to lead a team.
