What you’ll be doing

Working within the Workplace Accommodation and Ergonomics Program team, this position is to facilitate clear, two-way communication between our Deaf, Deafened and Hard of Hearing and hearing workforce by providing reliable ASL (American Sign Language) interpreting services. We are seeking an experienced ASL Interpreter who is committed to the provision of interpretation services with a high regard for confidentiality and the ability to convey complex financial terminology and concepts accurately within the banking industry.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

Travel will be required throughout the GTA (North York, Mississauga, Scarborough, Downtown Toronto).

How you’ll succeed
  • ASL on the spot – Provide specialized support through interpretation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees in person and remotely using Microsoft Teams. Support will include formal and informal in-person meetings, conference calls and townhalls. In most situations, you will also be required to communicate on behalf of the employee.
  • Organization – Manage the booking processes to ensure consistency across all assignments, in accordance with industry standards, guidelines and best practices. Independently manage bookings for employees and arrange for additional interpreters as required, including managing their services (e.g., invoicing, etc.).
  • Program support – Assist with day to day tasks, providing operational support to business partners, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and other projects, as needed.

  • You are involved in. As an active member of Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) you hold a 3–4-year post-secondary diploma/degree from an accredited training program or equivalent such as the ASL English Interpreter Training Program (AEIP).
