AES Teacher Assistant
Job Description
Description of Position

The Assistant Teacher assists the teacher with instruction in reading, language arts, mathematics, and related activities.

Area of Responsibility
Duties include but not limited to the following:
  • Assist the classroom teacher in guiding students through positive and rewarding learning experiences
  • Provide direct assistance in improving students’ basic skills in reading and in improving students’ basic skills in other academic areas as required.
  • Operate within district policies and procedures
  • Adhere to policies and procedures established by the District
  • Report discipline problems or guidance/health needs to classroom teacher
  • Reinforce and teach basic skills with individual or small groups planning process (including lesson plans, checking students’ work, etc.)
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences
  • Attend staff development meetings
  • Model good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students
  • Ensure that the District Curriculum, State test required Core Skills, and CRT are taught
  • Substitute in teacher’s absence not to exceed three (3) consecutive days unless extreme circumstances
  • Perform other duties as assigned by teacher and/or principal
