Job summary

A leading Canadian P&C insurer seeks an Actuarial Specialist – Commercial Lines to enhance pricing models and deliver analytical insights. The role involves collaboration across teams, supporting regulatory filings, and mentoring junior analysts. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematics/Statistics, along with at least 5 years of relevant experience. This position offers a hybrid work option in Toronto, Ontario.

Qualifications

  • ACAS designation or FCAS/FCIA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of P&C experience, ideally in commercial pricing.
  • Experience with regulatory filings and pricing model deployment.

Actuarial Specialist -Commercial Lines

As an independent contributor, the Actuarial Specialist – Commercial Lines plays a pivotal role in advancing pricing sophistication and analytical excellence across Commercial Lines portfolios, including Commercial Auto and Property & Casualty.This role leads the development and implementation of pricing models, ensuring alignment with business strategy and regulatory requirements. The Specialist collaborates cross-functionally to deliver actionable insights, supports deployment in rating engines, and contributes to regulatory filings.

The Specialist mentors junior analysts and fosters a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Actuarial Manager, this role is a trusted partner in driving profitable growth through data-driven decision-making.

What will you do?

  • Pricing Strategy & Portfolio Support: Develop rate indications and pricing recommendations that align with commercial insurance objectives.
  • Data Interpretation & Preparation: Clean and interpret complex datasets to uncover trends and inform pricing decisions.
  • Predictive Modeling: Build and refine predictive models in collaboration with Data Science, balancing technical rigor with business relevance.
  • Implementation & Regulatory Support: Support model deployment in rating engines and contribute to regulatory filings with clear documentation.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Communicate actuarial insights effectively to stakeholders and tailor solutions to business needs.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance pricing processes and adapt models to evolving business requirements.
  • Coaching & Development: Mentor junior analysts and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Professional Growth: Actively pursue CAS exams and participate in ongoing training and development.

What will you need to succeed in this role?

  • Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science or Mathematics/Statistics withACAS designation or FCAS/FCIA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of P&C experience, ideally in commercial pricing.
  • Experience with regulatory filings and pricing model deployment.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex findings into actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, challenge the status quo, and influence outcomes.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to team development.
