The Opportunity

The AB is an essential role responsible for supporting the overall operations and maintenance of the floatel alongside in Canada. Working under the supervision of deck officers, the AB assists in various deck and general duties to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the floatel and provide a comfortable experience for guests.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Deck Operations:

  • Assist in deck operations, including mooring, berthing, and securing the floatel alongside the dock.
  • Handle lines and assist in the safe transfer of guests, crew, and supplies to and from the floatel.
  • Participate in the maintenance and repair of deck equipment, such as lifeboats, winches, and gangways.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the deck area.

Safety and Emergency Preparedness:

  • Follow and enforce safety protocols and regulations on the floatel.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions to ensure preparedness for emergencies.
  • Inspect and maintain safety equipment, such as life rafts, life jackets, and firefighting equipment.
  • Assist in implementing and monitoring safety measures and procedures.

Guest Services:

  • Provide assistance and support to guests during embarkation, disembarkation, and throughout their stay.
  • Assist with luggage handling and ensuring guest comfort and safety during transfers.
  • Respond to guest inquiries, requests, and concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure guest satisfaction and resolve any issues.

Maintenance and General Duties:

  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the floatel's exterior and interior areas.
  • Participate in the cleaning and upkeep of public areas, cabins, and common spaces.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, such as painting, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Ensure the availability and proper functioning of deck equipment, tools, and supplies.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports related to deck operations and safety.
  • Assist in documenting maintenance activities, safety drills, and incidents.
  • Report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or deficiencies to the appropriate authorities.
  • Follow established reporting procedures for incidents, accidents, and near misses.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of previous experience as an AB or in a similar role within the maritime industry, preferably onboard a RO-RO, cruise ship or other passenger vessels
  • STCW Reg. II/4 rating forming part of a navigational watch or STCW Reg. II/5 rating as an able seafarer deck
  • Valid Seafarers Medical certificate
  • STCW Reg. VI/1 safety familiarization, basic training, and instruction for all seafarers
  • STCW Reg. VI/2, competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
  • STCW Reg. VI/6 security-related training and instruction for all seafarers
  • STCW Crowd management training
  • Forklift driver training
  • Excellent comprehension and command of the English language (written & verbal)
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test before hiring and potential random tests throughout employment, with prior notice

Working Conditions

  • Repetitive, physical activity involved (walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting)
  • Lifting light to medium weight (up to 20 to 50lbs)
  • Exposure to environmental elements, including extreme weather conditions
