Position: Supported Child Development ASL Interpreter

Location: Parksville

Hours: Casual/On Call

Salary: $38.68 - $47.20 (starting at $38.68)

We are looking for a Supported Child Development (SCD) American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our child development team! This individual must be fluent in ASL and a member of the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI).

Description Of Position

The Supported Child Development ASL Interpreter is a member of the Child Development Services team, providing integrated, multidisciplinary, family centered developmental services and supports to the children in childcare settings.

The SCD/ASL Assistant provides interpretation between ASL and spoken English for deaf children and children with hearing loss and supports the inclusion of children with support needs within licensed childcare settings.

Reporting to:

CDS Team Leader

General Responsibilities
  • Facilitate communication between Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing children and staff within childcare settings.
  • Provide support and direct care to children, encouraging their intellectual, physical and emotional growth within the childcare setting.
  • Provides ASL/English interpretation support between families and Sources staff as required.
  • Utilizes strategies to encourage and support inclusion throughout the childcare setting.
Program-specific Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with SCD Consultants and the staff in childcare settings to assist with the planning and provision of inclusive strategies to support the child within the childcare setting.
  • Collaborates with the CDS team to provide integrated, family centered service delivery.

Qualifications
  • Member in good standing with Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) – Mandatory
  • Experience working with young children in a childcare setting would be an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check - Mandatory
