As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing the services that power the core rental platform. You’ll collaborate closely with a talented team to build scalable, efficient backend systems that improve the experience for both property listers and renters. • Design, build, and maintain back-end services that drive Apartment List’s core product.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and improve features for property listers.

• Write high-quality, performant code primarily using Ruby on Rails and Java/Kotlin.

• Deploy and manage services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Take ownership of projects, advocate for best practices, and seek simple, scalable solutions.

• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and engineering trends to continuously improve our stack.

• 5+ years of professional software development experience in organizations with strong engineering processes.

• Strong software development skills and a solid foundation in computer science fundamentals.

• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and/or Java/Kotlin (experience with both is a plus).

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud (GCP).

• A well-rounded engineer who can take ownership of projects from conception to deployment.

• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
