Role Overview

We are looking for a Tax Lawyer based in Belo Horizonte who will support our clients with Brazilian tax structuring, compliance, and ongoing operational needs. This position is ideal for a lawyer who enjoys working directly with international companies and providing practical, business-focused advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise clients on Brazilian federal, state, and municipal tax obligations related to incorporation, ongoing operations, and cross-border structures.
• Provide guidance on tax implications of service agreements, transfer pricing, international payments, and permanent establishment concerns.
• Support clients with monthly and annual tax compliance, including coordination with accountants where required.
• Review and prepare legal opinions, memoranda, and reports related to tax matters.
• Assist with tax planning strategies for foreign companies entering Brazil or expanding their footprint.
• Liaise with government offices, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies as needed.
• Work closely with the broader Ax Legal team in Chile and Peru to ensure regional consistency for multinational clients.
• Participate in client meetings, onboarding processes, and project planning to ensure smooth operations in Brazil.
• Support general corporate or commercial matters when tax expertise is required.

Qualifications

• Law degree from a recognised Brazilian university.
• Specialisation or postgraduate studies in Tax Law highly preferred.
• Minimum 4–6 years of relevant experience, ideally with exposure to cross-border matters or multinational clients.
• Strong understanding of Brazilian tax regimes, including indirect taxation, corporate taxation and tax incentives.
• Experience advising international companies is an advantage.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills both in English and Portuguese required.
