The Work You'll Do:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you are a problem solver who leverages technology to solve difficult problems at scale. This role challenges you to work quickly and effectively as a team leader, sharing technical knowledge and guiding your team to build and deploy high‑quality software that satisfies our customers. You'll lead one of our development teams, serving as the technical point of contact for our Product Managers while guiding the team in planning iterations and mentoring less experienced team members. This is an excellent opportunity to join a global team and collaborate with colleagues across multiple time zones.

More specifically, you will:

• Participate competently in SDLC as an active participant in all major activities (Planning, Stand Up, Story Time, etc.) while developing skills using TDD and CI practices
• Function competently as an individual contributor, completing relatively small tasks independently while working as a team member with more senior developers on complex stories and tasks
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Product Owners, Development Managers, Quality Assurance, Experience Design, and other technical staff to refine requirements and designs
• Participate on cross‑functional teams to deliver solutions from the point of inception through customer delivery while improving processes, standards, and practices
• Pair program effectively with more junior and senior developers while developing programs consistent with Sovos coding standards and conventions
• Build skill in at least one specific technical expertise (Database, SAP, Web Development, etc.) and become competent in at least one Sovos application
• Find and update relevant documentation when developing while triaging and resolving simple engineering escalations
• Work with other team members to solve complex problems and troubleshoot issues and bugs within your application of expertise
• Develop and enhance the user experience of our applications while contributing to our component library with well‑crafted components that can be used by the entire development team
• Add to our unit test suite (Karma and Jasmine based) and collaborate in a fast‑paced agile environment under tight deadlines to ship new releases each sprint
• Take part in an active culture of learning by exploring new technologies, participating in knowledge shares, attending conferences, and collaborating with local developer bootcamps
• Leverage AI‑powered development tools to enhance coding efficiency, code review processes, and problem‑solving capabilities

What We Need From You:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of experience with COBOL and C development
• Hands‑on experience developing on Windows, including Visual Studio and scripting.
• Strong experience developing on Linux/UNIX platforms (e.g., Red Hat, SUSE, AIX), including working with Makefiles.
• Practical project experience with relational databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
• Strong English communication skills, including documentation and technical writing.
• Familiarity with modern development tools, including Jenkins, Jira, Confluence, and Git.
• Demonstrated accountability, responsiveness, proactiveness, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• 1+ years' experience providing technical leadership and hands‑on team coaching experience
• Ability to interact effectively with teammates, colleagues, and customers
• Ability to comprehend and communicate complex concepts
• Strong analytical skills with ability to concentrate and resolve complex problems
• Ability to utilize technology (e.g., phone systems, computer hardware and software applications) to fulfill work requirements
• Comfort working with AI‑assisted coding tools and technologies
• Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Java, PL/SQL, Visual Basic, Perl or C# programming
  • Knowledge of taxation, filing, or auditing processes.
