Lead Software Engineer

Platform Science is an open IoT platform that partners with fleets, developers, vehicle manufacturers, and equipment providers to deliver revolutionary solutions to supply chain professionals worldwide.
We are seeking a Lead/Senior Software Engineer to join our Video team. In this high-impact role you will take technical ownership of our existing video product, architect its evolution, and drive the technical roadmap to ensure stability, scalability, and performance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of large‑scale video solutions, setting technical standards for customer experience and reliability.
- Architect and implement scalable new features and services to evolve the video offering.
- Champion and enforce software engineering best practices across the team, promoting quality, high‑performance code, and CI/CD.
- Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers through code reviews and technical oversight.
- Own operational health of the video platform, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous performance improvements.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering leads to define the technical roadmap and ensure successful delivery of initiatives.
Required Experience
- 5‑8+ years of professional software engineering with proven leadership in designing and delivering complex, scalable systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and mentor team members.
- Hands‑on expertise in backend development (Kotlin/Java or similar) and designing resilient APIs.
- Strong frontend experience with React, Angular, or similar.
- Proficiency with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL) and data modeling.
- Extensive experience building, deploying, and operating cloud‑native applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Commitment to quality with deep experience in test automation (Unit, Integration, TDD).
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Preferred: Event‑Driven architecture design, high‑throughput streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ), non‑relational databases, caching strategies, serverless patterns, Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform), holistic QA, video processing and streaming protocols (HLS, DASH), and mobile (Android) development.
