Overview

AWS Tech U is a 48-week program designed to help new AWS employees develop technical expertise in AWS Cloud computing and soft skills for a successful career in the tech industry.

Key job responsibilities
  • Solutions Architect – Partner across AWS teams to help customers craft highly scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures. Act as a trusted customer advocate to educate on best practices and help migrate workloads to the cloud. Work with customers ranging from startups to large enterprises.
  • Customer Solutions Associate – Align cloud transformational programs across IT and business units; assess risks, manage issues, balance trade-offs, and evangelize AWS at an executive level to secure resources.
  • Professional Services Consultant – Educate, train, design, and build solutions for diverse customers; roles may include DevOps Specialist, Cloud Infrastructure Architect, Application Developer, Data Lake & Analytics Specialist, Data Warehouse & MPP Specialist, and Data Engineer.
  • Associate Technical Trainer – Deliver instructor-led courses and develop e-learning modules; identify areas to update architectural collateral to ensure world-class AWS solutions.
  • Associate Technical Account Manager – Work with customers and AWS teams to craft scalable cloud architectures; provide ongoing support, guidance, and best practices; help shape strategies to build mindshare and broad use of AWS.

About Tech U – AWS Tech U is a 48-week residency program featuring project-based learning, real-world problem solving, and on-the-job training. Participants develop technical expertise in AWS Cloud computing and the soft skills required to launch a successful career. Graduates are prepared to serve as solutions architects, technical trainers, and professional services consultants within AWS.

About the Curriculum

The AWS Tech U curriculum develops technical expertise in cloud computing and prepares participants for various roles within AWS. Over approximately 24 weeks of technical and professional development, it is delivered through a mix of digital and classroom training, hands-on labs, and project work. The project-based portion includes eight two-week sprints focusing on simulated customer scenarios in these domains:

  • Highly Available Web Apps
  • Media & Entertainment
  • Migrations & Hybrid Apps
  • Big Data
  • Enterprise Applications
  • IoT and AI
  • Microservices
  • Security, Governance & Compliance

There are two weeks of fundamentals training at the start, a midpoint meetup, and a final week for assessments and capstone projects.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or related fields (or graduated less than 24 months prior to application)
  • Experience with one of the following programming languages: Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js, C#, or C++
  • Experience with networking fundamentals, security, databases (Relational and/or NoSQL), operating systems (Unix, Linux, and/or Windows)
  • Fluent proficiency in English
  • Experience implementing a cloud-based technology solution in a school project or while working for a company
  • Experience with one or more of the following domains: systems administration (Linux/Windows), network administration (DNS, IPsec, BGP, VPN, Load Balancing), or programming (Node.js, Java, Ruby, C#, Python, or PHP)
