The Principal Data Scientist applies strong expertise in artificial intelligence through use of machine learning, data mining, and information retrieval to design, prototype, and build next-generation advanced analytics engines and services. The role involves collaborating with business partners to define technical problems, developing analytical models, and integrating them into data products. The Principal Data Scientist is also responsible for establishing DS standards, tools, and nurturing the Data Science community within EGA.

• Communicate analytics approach and objectives effectively to business partners
• Advocate data-driven decision making and educate on its value
• Lead analytic projects and integrate solutions with data engineers and developers
• Develop data science capabilities and promote continuous learning
• Create scalable, interpretable models for data products
• Ensure high-quality data science standards and tools are used
• Engineer features using business insights to combine data sources
• Share passion for Data Science and develop long-term processes and standards
• Collaborate and mentor a team of Data Scientists
• Provide leadership across multidisciplinary data science projects
• Communicate strategic value of data science to senior stakeholders
• Engage with external sources through conferences and community activities

• Operate within broad policies and standards, establishing plans and priorities
• Make decisions impacting other areas with appropriate approvals

• MS or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or Statistics
• Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL

• 10+ years in a data science role, with domain expertise in Metal & Mining or Energy industries
• Strong skills in applied mathematics, statistics, and scientific practices
• Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, etc.
• Knowledge of programming languages and data science domains such as AI, deep learning, NLP, etc.
• Experience working with data engineers and handling large data sets
• Understanding of distributed computing or NoSQL technologies is a plus

• Experience with large data sets, distributed computing tools, and model deployment

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Proactive with strong time management skills
• Ability to learn quickly and solve complex problems

• Curiosity, humility, organizational skills, and coaching ability
