Overview
Wood is recruiting for a Senior GIS Engineer to join our team in Sharjah, UAE. This is a full-time office-based role with business trips.
Responsibilities
- Executing assigned scopes of work.
- Providing discipline expertise to the business.
- Supporting and supervising task delegation to team.
- Using technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables, including complex problems; may serve as the primary discipline engineer or discipline technical authority on projects with small to medium complexity.
- Performing engineering assignments representing a significant portion of a larger project; selecting engineering techniques to solve problems and making design recommendations.
- Planning and conducting assignments with scope for coordination of difficult tasks.
- Applying specific areas of expertise within the discipline; reviewing and managing complex projects in consultancy environments and multi-disciplinary contexts.
Key Objectives
- Contributing to technical delivery of engineering excellence through executing assigned scopes of work; providing discipline expertise; supporting and supervising task delegation to the team.
- Performing engineering tasks with minimal guidance and direction; serving as a technical leader or authority on relevant projects.
- Ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards and contributing to continuous improvement.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Participates as a team member in specific phases of a broad engineering assignment and directs preparation of appropriate project documentation.
- Ensures successful completion of the assigned project/phase within budgeted time and cost constraints; participates in planning and scheduling work.
- Evaluates problems, organizes investigations, and establishes performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc.
- Checks engineering calculations and drawings against industry codes and standards; assists with the development of less senior technical professionals.
- Adheres to discipline-specific procedures and provides feedback for continuous improvement; participates in audits and incident investigations as required.
- Performs complex engineering tasks related to major projects; participates in site visits, design reviews, and other workshops as required.
Providing discipline expertise
- Solves problems requiring new approaches; exercises mature professional judgment in evaluating technical strategic options.
- Modifies established guidelines when necessary and applies criteria in new ways; regularly functions as a technical leader or significant contributor.
- Develops unique solutions for complex technical problems and anticipates potential issues; uses internal and external resources effectively.
- Understands customer needs and applies technical solutions to meet goals; provides technical input to proposals as required.
Supporting and Supervising task delegation to team
- May supervise a small work group or provide guidance to others in area of specialization; assist in managerial tasks such as task assignment, planning, scheduling, budgeting, and meetings.
- Discusses priorities with senior engineers; approves work schedules and allocates resources; may manage small projects with responsibility for cost, schedule, and risk.
- Provides HSSE leadership and ensures compliance with safety requirements in design and site work.

- Internal: builds productive relationships across projects, offices, and regions; engages with the inter-discipline community; negotiates criteria and gains support for technical points.
- External: maintains awareness of external stakeholders including industry bodies, academia, and vendors; builds relationships with customers and seeks new external opportunities.
Level of Influence & Decision-Making Authority
- Work is guided by goals and priorities; unusual or complex matters are referred to more senior authority.
- Actions and decisions influence technical, operational, and financial results of projects or departments; no direct reports but may supervise teams and provide guidance to drafters/designers.
- Accountable for own targets; overall performance reviewed and evaluated.

Expected
- B.Sc. or equivalent degree in the Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 10+ years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least five (5) years in a similar position.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Specific experience in Oil and Gas projects across their lifecycle in the GCC region, preferred
- Pre-FEED, FEED experience is required
- Detailed Engineering experience is preferred

- Professional level of knowledge of applicable codes and standards
- Technically competent in own discipline, pursues continuous professional development of skills and knowledge according to standards
- Maintains own knowledge of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments and promotes to direct reports.
- Applies mature professional knowledge and experience to assignments where issues and factors to be considered may be characterized by unusual demands
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced laws, principles, mathematics or industry knowledge in the improvement and development of designs
