Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Senior Transport Planner to lead the preparation and management of master plans. This role requires over 5 years of experience in urban planning and a relevant degree. The ideal candidate will contribute to development policies, manage in-house project teams, and liaise with external stakeholders. The position demands excellent research, communication skills, and fluency in English, with Arabic knowledge being a plus.

Job Description:

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead the preparation and periodic update of master plans, area plans, and be responsible for the Transportation Master Plan.
  • Participate in the preparation and periodic update of other planning documents as required (e.g., land subdivision plans, transportation plans, pedestrian circulation plans, etc.).
  • Manage Transportation Master Plan and lead tenants’ transportation plan reviews.
  • Liaise with the Engineering team for infrastructure design and coordinate with the master planning team.
  • Participate in master planning and land planning related activities from preparing scopes of work through monitoring plan compliance and managing changes.
  • Plan for the provision of requisite infrastructure and community facilities, amenities, and services.
  • Participate in special plans and studies (e.g., workforce residential, way-finding, etc.).
  • Participate in monitoring plan compliance and provide technical support during plan implementation.
  • Provide the necessary guidance to promote safe, sustainable, and attractive developments.
  • Participate in preparing development and design guidelines, codes, and other rules or regulations as required.
  • Carry out any other activity identified to support the planning process.
  • Provide and receive inputs on all updates and strategic interactions related to urban planning at the client sites.
  • Liaise and interact with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies (especially the Department of Transportation), tenants and their consultants, as needed, to communicate urban planning matters.
People Management Responsibilities
  • Work as an effective member of the Urban Planning Department to develop plans and policies for a large, mixed-use industrial port development.
  • Liaise with external regulatory authorities and stakeholders as necessary.
Strategic Responsibilities
  • Contribute to development and land management policies and procedures, including site allocation (temporary and permanent).
  • Manage in-house project teams and external consultants to carry out tasks.
  • Initiate further studies or planning activities required to support the implementation of the AD Ports Master Plan, strategic plans, business plans, and other Abu Dhabi Ports initiatives.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring
  • More than 5 years of experience in urban planning and related fields.
  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in urban planning, transportation planning, or an associated field.
  • Membership of a recognized professional body (e.g., AICP, RTPI) is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of urban planning, urban design, and related fields.
  • Strong ability in methods and techniques of effective research and technical report preparation and presentation.
  • Experience in the analysis of site criteria, terrain constraints, circulation, land use compatibility, and other urban services.
  • Experience in environmental management planning, zoning, and land subdivision.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze and interpret planning and development proposals, technical and administrative reports, statements, and correspondence.
  • Experience in applying the principles and practices of urban planning and development.
  • Experience in the supervision, training, and evaluation of assigned staff.
  • Experience in directing and implementing comprehensive planning programs.
  • Experienced project manager.
  • Experience as a team leader that can recruit, manage, direct, and motivate team members.
  • Fluent written & spoken English (minimum); knowledge in Arabic is a plus.
  • GCC experience preferred; international experience is a plus.
