Job Description

Wood is recruiting for a Senior Pipeline Engineer to join our UAE Business Unit. This is a full‑time office‑based role in Sharjah, UAE with business trips.

Responsibilities
  • Participates as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment.
  • Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
  • Ensures successful completion of the assigned project/phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
  • Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work.
  • Evaluates problems, organizes investigations and establishes general performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc.
  • Checks Engineering calculations as well as checks all drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards; assists with the development of less senior Technical Professionals.
  • Adheres to and complies with relevant discipline specific procedures and provides feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Participates in audits and incident investigations as required.
  • Performs complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects.
  • Participates in site visits, project review meetings, design reviews and other workshops as required.
  • Organizes and actively participates in design reviews.
  • Solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches; exercises mature professional judgment in evaluating and selecting technical strategic options.
  • As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.
  • Regularly functions as a technical leader or significant contributor to a major complex problem or project.
  • Produces innovative ideas and solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches.

  • Assists in performing managerial tasks as requested, such as assigning tasks to engineers; planning and coordinating portions of the engineering work; preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; attending project meetings; and developing lesser‑experienced technical professionals.
  • Discusses with other senior engineers to agree priorities and implications on work of others.
  • Approves work schedules and makes recommendations for increased resources and special equipment.
  • Makes commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources and staff required to meet goals.
  • Coordinates the activities of engineering and design groups assigned to small projects.
  • Participates in developing deadlines, projects and work to be done.
  • May manage one or more small projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, resources allocation and risk.
  • Provides appropriate HSSE leadership including compliance with site and office safety requirements and technical/design safety requirements.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc. or equivalent degree in the Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 10+ years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least five (5) years in similar position.
  • Specific experience in Oil and Gas projects across their lifecycle in the GCC region, preferred.
  • Pre‑FEED, FEED experience is required.
  • Detailed Engineering experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Caesar II/Autopipe and awareness in Arc GIS, Autocad, Naviswork.
  • Prepare pipeline design deliverables.
  • Provide input to produce pipeline documents and drawings.
  • Complete pipeline design calculations (wall thickness, buoyancy, bending, etc.).
  • Provide field engineering support to perform site surveys and data gathering at various locations throughout the field.
  • Complete Material Take Offs and associated Material Requisitions.
  • Coordinate procurement bids and complete technical bid evaluations.
  • Identify optimization and operating cost reduction opportunities.
  • Ensure construction and field modifications meet the requirements of all applicable codes, standards and regulations.
  • Awareness of interdisciplinary activities and coordination such as PFD & P&ID's.
  • Responsible for design team activities and assisting Senior Designer and Engineers.
  • Assist in coordination of all activities related to pipeline discipline.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to project team, managing, motivating and mentoring professional engineering specialists.
  • Ability to discover issues and recommend solutions to technical and commercial issues uncovered during course of performing assignments.
  • Proficient user of relevant software and calculation templates.
  • Professional level of ability in the application of standards, processes and procedures and how they are used in work execution.
  • Professional level of knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Technically competent in own discipline, pursues continuous professional development of skills and knowledge according to standards.
  • Maintains own knowledge of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments and promotes to direct reports.
  • Applies mature professional knowledge and experience to assignments where issues and factors to be considered may be characterized by unsual demands and require additional evaluation to establish the nature and scope of the problem.
  • Demonstrated ability to advanced laws, principles, mathematics or industry knowledge in the improvement and development of designs.
  • Demonstrated skills in persuasion, negotiation, motivation and communication.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project planning.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the various Business Units, Functions, Sectors and services offered within business area, and general understanding of other Wood business offerings.
