Job Vacancy: Resident Engineer - Electrical

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Resident Engineer - Electrical to join our team for utility and infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi. The ideal candidate must have strong technical knowledge of Abu Dhabi HSE legislation, codes of practice, and industry best practices.

Job Purpose

The Resident Engineer – Electrical shall be responsible for the supervision, coordination, and monitoring of all electrical works related to 33kV, 22kV, and 11kV power networks and power transformers, ensuring full compliance with TAQA requirements, approved drawings, technical specifications, applicable standards, and contractual obligations. The position requires a professional previously approved by TAQA for a similar electrical supervision role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor Contractor’s electrical works associated with 33kV / 22kV / 11kV power distribution networks, including substations, power transformers, MV switchgear, protection systems, and underground cable networks.
  • Ensure all electrical works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, TAQA standards, specifications, and statutory authority requirements.
  • Review and recommend approval of shop drawings, method statements, ITPs, material submittals, and technical documents related to MV networks and power transformers.
  • Witness installation, testing, commissioning, and energization of power transformers, including associated protection, earthing, and auxiliary systems.
  • Coordinate with TAQA, Contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure proper planning and execution of site activities.
  • Monitor construction progress, identify technical risks, and report NCRs, delays, and issues to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure strict compliance with HSE requirements during execution of all electrical works.
  • Review inspection requests and ensure quality of works prior to TAQA inspections.
  • Assist in preparation of progress reports, site instructions, technical correspondence, and handover documentation.
  • Support snagging, de-snagging, and final handover of MV networks and power transformers.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Membership in a recognized professional engineering body is an advantage.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 10–12 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Resident Engineer / Site Supervision role with a supervision or PMC consultant.
  • Proven experience in supervision of 33kV, 22kV, and 11kV power networks, including cable laying, jointing, termination, testing, commissioning, and energization.
  • Demonstrated experience in installation, testing, and commissioning of power transformers.
  • Previous TAQA approval as Resident Engineer / Electrical Engineer for supervision projects is mandatory.
  • Prior experience on TAQA or similar UAE utility infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in 33kV / 22kV / 11kV power distribution systems and power transformers.
  • In-depth knowledge of transformer installation, protection schemes, and testing activities (IR, TTR, OLTC, functional testing).
  • Thorough understanding of TAQA standards, procedures, and approval processes.
  • Strong coordination, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage contractor performance and resolve site issues.
  • Proficient in MS Office and engineering documentation systems.
Language Requirements
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Arabic is an added advantage.
