Job Description

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at College of Engineering, United Arab Emirates University calls for application for Research Associates to work in the field of bio-based materials. The candidate will be supported by a research grant for four months and will work under the supervision of Professor Mohammad Jawaid.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Extraction of lignin using natural deep eutectic solvents from biomass
• Characterisation of extracted lignin from biomass
• Modification of lignin to biobased resin
• Testing extracted and modified lignin using advanced characterization techniques like Thermal, Structural, Morphological, NMR, UV Spectroscopy, Particle size Analysis (PSA), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) Analysis
• Present and report research results at national and international conferences and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed Q1 journals

Minimum Qualifications

• Skilled in Material science
• Research experience in Extraction and synthesis of lignin and Bioresin
• Ability to fabricate and characterize composites and nanocomposites
• Good technical writing skills and good publication records
• Flexible approach and initiative in executing the role

Preferred Qualifications

• Material science/Polymer composites background or any related area
• Demonstrable willingness to support work in the lab
• Be adaptable and flexible to the continuous changes associated with research demands
