Summary
This position is affiliated with Cincinnati’s Children’s hospital in the USA. The Consultant in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery provides expert care for children with congenital and acquired heart conditions, including complex structural defects and acquired cardiac diseases. The consultant performs advanced surgical procedures, manages pre- and post-operative care, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered cardiac care. The role also involves mentoring junior staff, participating in clinical research, and contributing to the advancement of pediatric cardiac surgery programs.
Education/Qualification
- Basic medical degree from recognized institution
- Post-qualification certification
- Qualification Source from: North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand.
- USA: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
- UK and Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia and New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-board/equivalent certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland (CCST), United Kingdom (CCT), Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden OR Switzerland. Sub-Specialties: Minimum of two (2) years of experience post-sub-specialty certification in Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience after obtaining the main specialty qualification in United Kingdom (CESR) Portugal, Spain, or Italy. Sub-Specialties: Minimum of four (4) years of experience after obtaining the sub-specialty qualification in Portugal, Spain, or Italy.
License
- Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform advanced surgical procedures for children with congenital and acquired heart conditions.
- Manage pre-operative and post-operative care, including monitoring and coordinating complex cardiac cases.
- Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, intensivists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists to provide integrated care.
- Develop individualized surgical plans and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to junior medical staff, residents, and fellows.
- Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives to advance pediatric cardiac surgery care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support education and training programs within the department.
- Contribute to the development and growth of the pediatric cardiac surgery program, including new techniques and protocols.
- Engage with families to explain surgical options, expected outcomes, and post-operative care plans.
