Job description

Synopsis: The Manager Safety reports to the Senior Manager Safety Investigations and is responsible for effective oversight and cross‑departmental coordination of safety investigations, effective liaison and synergy between the Safety Investigations and Safety Assurance teams, and other safety duties (as directed).

Responsibilities
  • The Manager Safety is responsible for the following functions in relation to CAR - AIR Ops, CAR SMS, CAR-OCR and AAIR regulations and corresponding IOSA standards:
  • Analyzing triggered events and trends and determining if further investigative action needs to be taken.
  • Ensuring the conduct of effective internal safety investigations in relation to CAR SMS, CAR-OCR and CAR - AIR Ops requirements.
  • Composing and/or reviewing safety reports for publication to the relevant internal and/or external stakeholders and government authorities.
Accountabilities
  • Ensuring that safety investigations include the identification of safety hazards, the identification of accident causal analysis, relevant findings, and safety recommendations to improve safety in the operating environment and reduce the likelihood of repeated and/or potential safety incidents.
  • Ensuring close collaboration with Safety department personnel regarding safety risks, findings and recommendations identified in safety investigations (both internal and external).
  • Ensuring the accuracy of monthly safety investigations inputs to support safety performance measurement.
  • Coordinating and liaising with various internal operational departments and external entities to provide feedback on safety issues identified through safety investigations and other sources.
  • Supporting the lead safety investigator/representative of the Safety Department in the company emergency response go-team, with regard to any accident or serious incident.
  • Making recommendations and supporting the development of enhancements to safety policies, processes, and procedures, with particular attention to safety investigation.
  • Performing effectiveness checks on elements of relevant processes and required communication channels between departments to ensure their robustness.
  • Liaising with the Manager Safety Training & Promotion on content for dissemination (both internal and external) relating to safety investigation findings and trends.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities, as reasonably expected, may be assigned as required.
Education & Experience
  • Educated to bachelor’s degree level in a safety or aviation-related field.
  • At least 5 years total working experience within operational experience, knowledge of Civil Aviation Standards & Regulations and Safety Management Systems.
