Job summary

A prominent engineering firm in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Lead Process Design Engineer. This role serves as the Technical Authority for the Instrument Air and Plant Air System Upgrade. You will ensure compliance with ADNOC Offshore Process Engineering Standards while managing complex systems. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Chemical/Process Engineering and a minimum of 16 years of experience in Oil & Gas EPC projects. Offshore experience is mandatory, and this position promises a dynamic engineering environment.

Job Description
ROLE PURPOSE

The Lead Process Design Engineer shall act as the Technical Authority for all process engineering activities related to the Instrument Air (IA) and Plant Air (PA) System Upgrade, with primary focus on Air Compressors, ensuring:

  • Full compliance with ADNOC Offshore Process Engineering Standards
  • Protection of FEED & Design Basis integrity
  • Safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operation of IA/PA systems on live offshore platforms
  • Independent Owner’s Engineer (OE)-level engineering governance
PROCESS ENGINEERING DISCIPLINE SCOPE (IA/PA PROJECT)

The scope includes, but is not limited to:

  • Instrument Air & Plant Air system design
  • Air Compressor process sizing & selection
  • Air Dryers (Heatless / Heated)
  • Air Receivers & Distribution Headers
  • Filtration & Moisture Separation
  • Interconnection with Utility & Control Systems
  • Process Safeguarding & Overpressure Protection
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
4.1 Process Technical Authority (Owner’s Engineer Role)
  • Act as Lead Process Authority for:

  • IA/PA system design

  • Compressor process sizing

  • Air quality & reliability requirements

  • Enforce compliance with:

  • ADNOC CoPs

  • API / ISO compressor & air treatment standards

  • Provide final technical approval on all process design deliverables

4.2 Air Compressor & IA/PA System Process Design
  • Perform and review:

  • Compressor sizing calculations

  • Air demand balance & peak load assessment

  • System pressure drop calculations

  • Turndown & redundancy philosophy (N 1)

  • Validate:

  • IA vs PA segregation

  • Dryer sizing & moisture removal efficiency

  • Air quality class suitability for instruments

4.3 Brownfield Integration & Offshore Feasibility
  • Lead process engineering for:

  • Tie-ins to live IA/PA headers

  • Shutdown & operational constraints

  • Temporary air supply philosophy during changeover

  • Review:

  • Laser scan & as-built data

  • Brownfield modification method statements

  • Support:

  • SIMOPS planning & execution

4.4 Process Safeguarding, PSV & Safety Studies
  • Lead process input for:

  • HAZID / HAZOP / ENVID

  • Relieving scenarios & PSV sizing

  • Blowdown & vent routing philosophy

  • Ensure:

  • All safeguarding recommendations are implemented in P&IDs & control logic

4.5 Interfaces with Other Disciplines
  • Coordinate closely with:

  • Rotating (compressors, performance)

  • Piping (headers, drops, pressure classes)

  • Static (air receivers, dryers)

  • Electrical (motor power demand)

  • I&C (control logic & interlocks)

4.6 Construction & Commissioning Support
  • Support:

  • Pre-commissioning of IA/PA systems

  • Dryer changeover & air quality verification

  • Performance testing of compressors & dryers

  • Provide process acceptance for RFSU

5. ADNOC-SPECIFIC OFFSHORE SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Enforce:

  • ADNOC PTW requirements

  • SIMOPS safety for live system tie-ins

  • Overpressure and stored energy hazard control

  • Ensure:

  • Emergency blow-off and venting are compliant

6. SIMPLE DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING
  • Maintain key process discipline registers , including:

  • Process Equipment List

  • Compressor & IA/PA Calculation Register

  • P&ID Register

  • TQ & Deviation Log

  • Review and approve:

  • Process datasheets

  • P&IDs

  • Cause & Effect diagrams (interface)

  • PSV sizing and safeguarding documents

Ensure compliance with:

  • ADNOC Document Numbering System

  • Project Master Document Register (MDR)

Prepare and submit:

  • Weekly Process Engineering Progress Reports

  • Monthly Discipline Summary Reports

Verify and approve as-built process documentation for:

  • Mechanical Completion (MC)

  • Ready for Commissioning (RFC)

  • Ready for Start-Up (RFSU)
