Overview

Job role : Design Lead – Civil & Structural for S/S projects

Reports to (Job – Role): Lead Engineering Manager – Civil & Structural

Reportee (Job – Role): Design Engineers, Draftsmen

Education: B.E. / B. Tech. (Civil) / M. Tech. in Structural Engineering

Experience: Minimum of 6 to 10 years of professional experience, with at least 3 to 5 years in a lead position. Should have done civil and structural design of substations and buildings and precast design.

Objective: As the Design Lead – Civil & Structural, the person will design RCC buildings as per applicable international codes including ASCE, ACI, and BS EN standards, and should have knowledge of precast design.

The role requires strict adherence to project schedules and accountability for resource allocation (man-hours) for self and subordinates, ensuring timely completion by checking designs, drawings, and other deliverables. The Design Lead is responsible for on-time submission of deliverables to clients and will provide support across the full project lifecycle—from pre-bid engineering to commissioning and warranty, and extension support to the site team.

The incumbent shall lead a team of engineers and draftsmen to manage engineering activities within budget, with on-time delivery and high quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Collecting inputs for project details (plot details, feeder arrangements, etc.) from client & Project Engineering Manager
• Collecting inputs for project details (General Arrangement Drawings) from Vendors
• Preparing civil & structural deliverables for the project scope
• Submission of requirement of man-hours for undertaking & reviewing design & drawings of the project
• Reviewing BOQ and submission to contracts team and providing technical clarifications
• Reviewing design & drawings made by Design Engineers & Draftsmen, checking design & calculations and obtaining client approvals
• Coordination with multiple disciplines for inter-departmental checks
• Providing support & clarifications to the Site Execution team
• Checking pre-award evaluation of vendors (w.r.t. client technical specifications) and forwarding the validation document to Supply Chain Management
• Clarification of design & client requirements to the Site Execution Team

Technical Expertise

• Design of RCC buildings in substations and transformer foundations
• Design of fire walls, equipment foundations, cable trenches, etc.
• Site grading work and retaining wall design
• Design of steel structures pertaining to substations
• Use of international codes & standards (American, European, etc.)
• Hands-on experience with design software such as STAAD Pro, ETABS

The Design Lead should also have a basic and detailed understanding of civil & structural drawings of buildings and outdoor structures.
