The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, tea, and specialty beverages while delivering exceptional guest service in a hotel environment. The role includes maintaining cleanliness, managing inventory, and ensuring smooth café or lounge operations. A hotel barista must be well‑versed in beverage standards, guest interaction, and luxury service etiquette.
Beverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve a wide range of hot and cold beverages including espresso‑based drinks, brewed coffee, teas, iced beverages, smoothies and specialty hotel signature drinks.
- Calibrate and operate espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and other café equipment.
- Maintain consistency in taste, temperature and presentation according to hotel standards.
- Create latte art and visually appealing beverage presentations (if required by the hotel).
Guest Service
- Greet guests warmly, take orders accurately and deliver beverages promptly.
- Provide recommendations based on guest preferences (decaf, dairy‑free options, flavors etc.).
- Engage with guests politely, ensuring a memorable and personalized experience.
- Handle guest feedback professionally and resolve minor issues promptly.
Operational Duties
- Prepare daily mise‑en‑place including coffee beans, syrups, garnishes, milk varieties and café supplies.
- Ensure cleanliness of the café station, work counters, machines and seating area.
- Follow hotel hygiene and sanitation standards (HACCP).
- Monitor stock levels of beans, syrups, tea blends, milk, pastries and service items.
- Assist in inventory checks, requisitions and stock rotation (FIFO).
- Assist with pastry display setup and restocking during service.
Cash & Billing
- Process orders through the POS system accurately.
- Handle billing, cash and card transactions responsibly.
- Follow hotel procedures for discounts, room postings and shift closure.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a Barista in a hotel café or restaurant (13 years preferred).
- Strong understanding of coffee beans, brewing methods and specialty coffee preparation.
- Knowledge of espresso extraction, milk steaming and beverage ratios.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional grooming and adherence to hotel appearance standards.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and holidays.
