Assistant Resident Engineer

Description

The Assistant Resident Engineer will be involved in working on projects associated with stormwater & drainage, flood alleviation, wastewater networks, and water distribution networks. This will involve undertaking investigations, pipeline valves, rising main construction supervision, and monitoring of design and infrastructure work. The role will be based in Dubai.

Key accountabilities for this position include but are not limited to:

1. Technical Delivery
   Assist the Resident Engineer in administering the operational functions of the day-to-day activities on the project with respect to construction works. Interacting with contractors, sub-contractors, and laboratories & monitoring construction work on a daily basis. Co-ordinate with various government departments, contractors, consultants, and the public to facilitate progress and avoid delays. Coordinate his direct activities with the other engineers and members of the construction supervision team. Maintain logs of project progress, handing-over, and final accounts. Arrange progress meetings for various government/Interface authorities representatives, minute them, and distribute the records as required. Chair the meetings with the government/Interface agencies and any other meetings delegated by the Resident Engineer. Assist the Resident Engineer in reviewing shop drawings, design proposals, method statements, and other activities including correspondence related to the project work and prepare replies for the review of the Resident Engineer. Demonstrated ability to prepare instructions, specifications, reports, and cost estimates. Coordinate with the contractor engineers on scheduling and application of resources. Direct, assist, and monitor the performance of the inspectors and surveyors as applicable. Review and approve design documents and construction plans and procedures. Prepare/Assist in the preparation of Weekly and Monthly progress reports. Keep necessary records and as-built records and take charge of the handing over of the project to the respective service authorities and assist the contractor to obtain necessary final clearance. Identifying non-conforming works, generating reports and corrective actions, and coordinating responses. Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
2. Client Service Management
   Internal and external client DM Infrastructure liaison. Ability to build and maintain lasting and positive relationships. Experience in utility diversions and management.
3. Safety and Compliance
   Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner. Complete all work in line with Stantec Core Values and in accordance with the Stantec Quality Systems and Project Quality Procedures. Design for safety, i.e., Construction Design Management.
4. Other duties
   As requested from time to time by the Resident Engineer.

Qualifications

The Assistant Resident Engineer must have a relevant engineering degree from a recognized university and must have thorough knowledge and work experience of not less than 10 years in design, construction, and supervision of house connections and miscellaneous works and road work. Responsibility for all development of design sketches and following up NOC’s. The candidate must also have full and complete knowledge of existing sewerage, drainage, and irrigation networks in the Emirate of Dubai. He must also have thorough knowledge and work experience in dealing with emergency works. He must know all areas in the emirate of Dubai and must be able to locate and reach the areas immediately in case of any emergency works. He must be able to deal with the public and coordinate with various Dubai Municipality Projects. Strong computer skills in Drafting Programs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Primavera P6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Capacity to make decisions. Valid UAE Driving License.
