An opportunity for an experienced Workshop Manager (Electrical) is available for permanent employment based in Majuba Region / Amajuba District.
A respected electrical engineering firm—renowned for its decades-long legacy in rewinding, overhauling, and repairing electric motors, generators, transformers, and rotating machinery—is seeking a hands-on, technically astute Workshop Manager to lead a high-performance team in their KZN facility.
This opportunity is ideal for a mature, seasoned professional with deep experience in armature winding, industrial electrical maintenance, and managing skilled artisans in a high-volume, customer-focused workshop environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As Workshop Manager, you will:
- Oversee the daily operations of a busy armature winding and electrical workshop.
- Lead and mentor a team of winders, fitters, and technicians.
- Ensure technical excellence, turnaround efficiency, and quality workmanship on all projects.
- Engage directly with clients to diagnose faults, provide quotations, and uphold service excellence.
- Drive workshop productivity while ensuring compliance with ISO standards, safety protocols, and electrical repair best practices.
Technical Management:
- Supervise the repair and rewinding of AC/DC motors, alternators, coils, transformers, and rotating equipment.
- Fault-finding and failure analysis.
- Set quality control benchmarks; inspect all final outputs.
People & Operations:
- Lead a multiskilled team across various workshop disciplines.
- Delegate tasks, set job cards, manage turnaround times.
- Conduct toolbox talks and enforce SHEQ compliance.
Customer & Commercial Interface:
- Liaise with regional clients (industries: mining, municipal, industrial).
- Prepare estimates, quotations, and job reports.
- Ensure clear communication, minimal downtime, and lasting client satisfaction.
Inventory & Procurement:
- Manage stock levels of copper, insulation, varnishes, bearings, and spare parts.
- Oversee tool calibrations, equipment maintenance, and procurement workflows.
Requirements:
- 10+ years’ experience in an electrical workshop, specifically armature winding and rotating equipment repairs.
- Proven leadership of a workshop team (foreman/supervisor/manager level).
- Technical qualification in Electrical Engineering or Trade Test (Armature Winder, Electrician, Fitter, etc.).
- Strong client interaction, quotation, and fault analysis experience.
- Valid driver’s license (Code 14 is advantageous).
- Proficient in MS Office and workshop job-tracking systems.
