The Sourcing Specialist is accountable for executing end-to-end strategic sourcing activities for ingredients, packaging and 3rd Party manufacturing categories, in line with Tiger Brands’ procurement strategy and governance framework. The role focuses on delivering sustainable cost savings, ensuring continuity of supply, mitigating supply risk, and supporting business growth and project delivery.
The incumbent will plan, configure, and execute sourcing events (RFI, RFQ, RFP, eAuctions), manage supplier relationships and contracts, and collaborate closely with Procurement leadership, manufacturing sites, commercial teams, and project stakeholders to meet operational, financial, and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic & Tactical Sourcing Execution
- Support the Procurement Manager and Procurement Director in implementing defined sourcing and category strategies for ingredients, packaging and 3rd Party manufacturing.
- Translate business requirements into tactical procurement and sourcing plans for assigned spend categories.
- Conduct end-to-end source-to-contract activities, including market analysis, supplier identification, RFX execution, negotiation, supplier selection, and contract finalization.
- Lead and execute group sourcing initiatives and competitive sourcing events for cross-BU and project-driven requirements.
- Ensure sourcing decisions balance cost competitiveness, quality, service, risk, and long-term value creation.
- Spend, Market & Cost Analysis
- Analyze direct material spend, demand patterns, and total cost of ownership to identify savings and optimization opportunities.
- Monitor commodity trends, supply market dynamics, capacity constraints, and pricing drivers relevant to ingredients and packaging.
- Develop and present fact-based sourcing recommendations supported by data, benchmarks, and scenario analysis.
- Contribute to Zero-Based Management (ZBM), budget inputs, and quarterly cost forecasts for review and sign-off by commodity and procurement managers.
- RFX, Negotiation & Contracting
- Manage and execute Tiger Brands RFX processes in compliance with Procurement Policy and Procedures.
- Support and participate in commercial negotiations with suppliers and internal stakeholders to achieve targeted savings and contractual protections.
- Prepare procurement motivations and award recommendations for governance approval.
- Develop, review, and manage supplier contracts in collaboration with the Legal team, ensuring appropriate service level agreements, pricing mechanisms, and risk clauses are in place.
- Supplier Performance & Relationship Management
- Coordinate closely with manufacturing sites and operational procurement teams to ensure supplier performance is monitored, measured, and reported.
- Track supplier KPIs related to cost, quality, service, delivery, innovation, and sustainability.
- Proactively address performance gaps, supply disruptions, and non-conformances with suppliers.
- Support supplier development initiatives aligned to business and category strategies.
- Supply Risk & Continuity Management
- Identify, assess, and maintain supply risk registers for assigned commodities.
- Develop and implement mitigation plans to manage risks related to supply continuity, quality, capacity, logistics, and market volatility.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve supply issues and ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Savings Tracking & Reporting
- Track, validate, and report savings and value delivery against approved targets on a monthly basis.
- Ensure savings are clearly documented, auditable, and communicated to Business Units and Procurement leadership.
- Support continuous improvement in savings identification, tracking methodologies, and reporting accuracy.
- Stakeholder & Project Collaboration
- Act as a sourcing partner to internal stakeholders across manufacturing,&D marketing, finance, and project teams.
- Support project teams with sourcing deliverables, timelines, supplier onboarding, and commercial inputs.
- Communicate sourcing strategies, progress, risks, and outcomes clearly to management and project governance forums.
- Influence and support changes to business, administrative, or operational practices where sourcing improvements are required.
- Sustainability, Innovation & Compliance
- Promote and integrate sustainable sourcing practices, ethical standards, and responsible supplier behaviors within assigned categories.
- Support innovation initiatives through early supplier engagement and alternative sourcing solutions.
- Ensure full compliance with Tiger Brands’ procurement policies, governance standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
ROLE IMPACT & COMPLEXITY
- Influences sourcing and commercial decisions impacting multiple departments, manufacturing sites, and Business Units.
- Operates with a high degree of autonomy within defined sourcing strategies, escalating strategic or high-risk matters as required.
- Engages in negotiations with both internal and external stakeholders on pricing, contracts, and service levels.
- Contributes directly to cost optimization, supply resilience, and long-term value creation for the business.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- 3 years' experience and Diploma in Procurement
- Experience in managing a procurement spend of approx. R400m – R500m.
