Role Summary

The main purpose of a Ship Broker is to act as a specialist intermediary/ negotiator between shipowners and charterers to arrange ocean transport of goods and commodities by sea, the employment of a vessel or to buy/ sell ships on behalf of a client. We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented Trainee Broker to join our Singapore office. You will work alongside our experienced Brokers to help strengthen relationships with existing clients for sales and help develop new business.

Ideally you will have some broking experience and be keen to develop your experience. You will be driven and self‑motivated and be a strong relationship builder.

What you will be doing
  • Support the day‑to‑day activities of the Senior Brokers
  • Instigate, arrange and negotiate deals, including relationship building to develop business
  • Maintain a database of daily market activities and keep track of vessel positions
  • Negotiate charters to achieve optimum results for clients
  • Provide market insight and trade ideas to clientsBuild strong rapport with existing clients and develop business with new clients
  • Interact with clients to establish a close working relationship
  • Attend meetings and events with clients when required
  • Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients
  • Maintain internal data flow of key market information
  • Maintain a database of daily market activities

Key Attributes
  • A Degree in Maritime from a reputable university will be highly regarded

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Fluency in English is essential to liaise with colleagues on desk as well as clients
