Roles & Responsibilities
The role of a Subcontracts Manager is for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project involves managing the entire lifecycle of subcontractor agreements, from tender and negotiation to administration, claims management, and close-out. This position is crucial for ensuring project delivery on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Tender & Award Phase: Leading the process of sourcing contractors, preparing bid recommendations, managing Request for Quotations (RFQs), evaluating bids, and formalizing contract awards.
- Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and subcontract notices, amendments, and change orders to protect the company's commercial interests.
- Administration & Compliance: Maintaining an organized contract repository, tracking key milestones, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements, and providing guidance on contractual matters to project teams.
- Change & Claims Management: Analyzing variations (variation orders, site instructions), assessing cost and time impacts, leading negotiations for extra work or new unit prices, and handling warranty or disruption claims.
- Commercial Management: Processing back charges, liquidated damages, and close-outs of subcontracts in line with procedures, and performing subcontract forecast analysis.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborating with internal teams (engineering, procurement, construction, legal) and external stakeholders (clients, subcontractors, vendors) to ensure alignment and effective execution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in contracts/subcontracts management in the oil & gas, offshore, or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of contract types, commercial terms, and subcontract management practices.
- Proficiency in contract management software and MS Office.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience in managing multiple subcontractors across large projects.
