Within RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST) Commodity Solutions is in charge of customer coverage responsible for up- and downstream origination and sales activities across large parts of Europe, serving large industrials and municipalities. The Commodity Flow Desk Global (CFD) provides access to energy wholesale markets for different client sectors. Acting as a cross-commodity hub the CFD supports external counterparties in managing their energy price risks through relevant exposures in Power, Gas, Emission Certificates, and derivative hedging products.

A key strategic focus for the CFD is the expansion of downstream financial and physical sales trading activities in the Asia-Pacific region (APAC). We aim to explore new OTC opportunities closely aligned with our existing trading operations and expanding footprint in renewables.

About the role
  • Build the future of RWEST CFD in APAC by shaping its strategy and operations.
  • Execute financial and selected physical OTC-hedging transactions focusing on Oil, LNG, Gas, Coal, Power, and green certificates (e.g., EUAs, carbon credits) across the APAC region.
  • Grow the APAC franchise by originating, establishing, and managing client relationships, and by executing transactions supported by CFD teams in Singapore and Essen.
  • Prepare groundwork and market entry strategies for new jurisdictions and products, including investigating new business cases, defining country‑specific and product‑specific requirements, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to secure approvals.
  • Manage and trade the CFD sales‑trading book, expanding business with existing and new clients, and streamlining operational processes across key APAC markets such as Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
Job requirements and experience
  • University and/or higher degree in business engineering or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of risk‑management practices in commodities such as Oil, LNG, and Power in APAC; familiarity with hedging instruments (OTC swaps, futures, etc.).
  • Substantial experience in energy sales trading and/or flow origination (minimum 3 years of trading experience preferred) from roles within banking, energy majors, or energy trading across upstream and downstream markets in APAC, especially in Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
  • Established client network in at least one of the focus countries and strong understanding of cultural dynamics across these markets (minimum 3 years working with clients in the region preferred).
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with high initiative and a clear drive to develop new business opportunities; able to work independently and in teams, applying complex analytical and conceptual thinking to problem‑solving.
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to translate analytical insights for interdisciplinary audiences; additional language skills in any of the focus countries are a strong asset.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the region as needed.
