As a Senior/Development Engineer, you will contribute towards developing robotic processes and solutions as part of a larger team, and lead small projects as a start, to meet the needs of different stakeholders. You will gain exposure to work on industrial projects, predominantly from Semicon and Aerospace industries, collaborating with the players from robotics & automation ecosystem in Singapore. You will work with both senior and junior engineers and scientists at A*STAR on different R&D projects for developing robotics and automation solutions.
If you are passionate about applied research and/or development of robotics and automation systems or solutions, this is the role for you.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the problem statement, identify technical challenges & novelties, design development approaches and develop the solutions towards deployment.
- Identify design considerations/requirements, analyse pros and cons between available options, present and justify to decision makers to enable technical and commercial decisions.
- Design robot-effectors, jigs and fixtures for prototyping then test and evaluate its performance for robotic assembly & disassembly processes.
- Develop robot work cell concept for reconfigurable robotic assembly line using CAD software; design robotic assembly toolpath and optimise automation workflow using simulation software tool.
- Program & debug robots to fine tune robot positions, adjust robot toolpath and interface with PC, PLC and other controllers.
- Work closely with system integrators to define clear Statement of Work (SOW), refine concept design, drive design reviews, follow up outstanding issues, monitor budget & timeline and define qualification requirements for FAT/SAT.
- Test and validate the prototype, conduct performance evaluation based on process requirements, optimise and recommend next steps.
- Provide onsite technical support & knowledge transfer during FAT/SAT with system integrators and customers.
JOB REQUIREMENT
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of experience
- Strong in mechanical design for robot end-effectors / jigs & fixtures prototyping and concept design of robot & automation work cell for deployment.
- Solid foundation in using CAD software to design mechanical components and Massemblies, applying good design practices such as Design for Manufacturability (DFM), GD&T practices, locating principle etc.
- Knowledge in grippers (pneumatic, vacuum, electric), motion control (actuators, motors, pneumatics), sensors and machine vision.
- Ability to reconcile stakeholders? feedback with design goals, anticipate risk and identify mitigation actions, drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for design revision.
- Hands-on experience with any industrial robots/cobots (ABB, KUKA, UR etc.), online programming with its respective textual programming language (RAPID, KRL, URScript etc.) and software package for offline programming (OLP) & process simulation (RobotStudio, RoboDK, Visual Components etc.)
- Experience in automation process testing, development and optimisation, applying proper design of experiment (DOE) practices and data analysis using statistical approaches/software tools is an added advantage.
- Work experience in robotics & automation projects for industry deployment is a plus.
- Fluent spoken and written to articulate problem statements, technical concepts and issues to internal & external stakeholders in cross-functional collaboration.
- Good problem-solving, resourceful, independent and self-driven team player.
