Job summary

A leading scientific instrumentation company in Singapore is seeking an Optical Design Engineer. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to drive optical product development and design prototypes for analytical instruments. Candidates should have a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Optics, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, particularly in spectrometry. Familiarity with optical design tools such as ZEMAX is advantageous, making this a key role for innovation in optical systems.

  • At least 2 years of experience in an analytical instrument manufacturing environment.
  • Good understanding of optical modeling and design tools.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team of hardware, software, firmware, mechanical, and quality engineers to drive Optical specific product development
  • Support design of prototypes and manufacturing of optical and atomic emission and atomic absorption instrumentation
  • Design and develop optical systems for spectroscopic instruments, including monochromatic and interferometer-based systems.
  • Recognizes cost and schedule implications on projects. Able to meet critical program schedules and technical objectives
  • Drives technical solutions based on standard or accepted technical practices
  • Work with R&D as a team to implement product specifications focusing on Optics. Identifies issues and areas for improvement with existing technical processes, either independently or through cross-functional teams. Develop ways to improve technical methodology, processes and products
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum a Master or bachelor’s degree in science/Engineering specialization in Optics; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in Optical Design especially in Spectrometer
  • At least 2 years of experience in an analytical instrument manufacturing environment
  • Experience with successful product development
  • Knowledge of AA and ICP-OES optical system design will be an advantage
  • Experience in Six Sigma, DOE and Lean manufacturing is a plus
  • Demonstrate knowledge of optical design and electrical systems/sub-systems of Analytical Instruments
  • Good understanding of optical modeling and design tools such as ZEMAX
  • Solid grasp of the engineering change process and function of Product Data Management systems (PDM)
  • Knowledge in ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001
