Job Summary

The Senior Occupational Therapist provides occupational therapy services to enable clients to achieve independence, safety, and quality of life in daily activities in home care setting. The role includes comprehensive assessment, care planning, caregiver training, supervision of junior staff and students, and contributing to service development, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Render clinical services for clients through assessment of client’s functional status, performance deficits, home environment and care resources.

  • Develop and implement evidence-based care plans to maximise independence, reduce injury risk, and prevent functional decline.

  • Formulate and implement care plan to facilitate maximal independence and prevent disability.

  • Prescribe, adapt, and train clients and caregivers in the use of rehabilitative equipment, assistive devices, and home modifications.

  • Monitor client progress and maintain timely, accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

  • Collaborate with internal and external care providers to plan and coordinate holistic client care.

  • Connect client with community resources and financial assistance when assessed, as necessary.

  • Conduct and evaluate caregiver training programmes to improve care delivery and caregiver coping capacity.

  • Build up and put discharge planning process into practice on admission of clients.

  • Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and competency assessment for junior occupational therapists, therapy assistants, and students.

  • Keep abreast of professional best practices by networking with relevant organisations and participating in educational activities.

Other Responsibilities
  • Support Operations Manager in service analysis, audits, budgeting input, and process improvements.

  • Co-lead professional development activities and projects (e.g training, quality improvement project, research or any new initiatives as assigned

  • Coach and guide junior staff and therapy assistants to enhance service standards.

  • Recommend suitable services or care arrangements based on client needs, ensuring proper documentation.

  • Participate in recruitment and onboarding of occupational therapy and support staff.

  • Contribute to developing professional education and community rehabilitation programmes.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognised institution; eligible for registration with AHPC (Singapore).

  • Preferably with experience in geriatric, community, or rehabilitation settings, including mentoring or supervising others.

  • Strong skills in functional assessment, care planning, and home modification strategies.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for engaging clients, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to coach, supervise, and assess competency of junior therapists, assistants, and students.
