The Challenges
- Lead the strategic management of cold chain logistics to ensure high standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency across fresh, chilled, and frozen product categories.
- Oversee day-to-day operations for distribution centres and transport functions, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and industry certifications.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cold chain processes, including inventory integrity, product handling, and transportation practices.
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams in supply chain, commercial, and technology functions to align operational performance with business priorities.
- Implement innovative solutions to strengthen temperature monitoring, quality assurance, and risk management across the end-to-end supply chain.
- Develop and optimize standard operating procedures for warehousing and transport, ensuring consistency and operational excellence.
- Lead vendor and partner management activities, ensuring service providers deliver against agreed performance benchmarks.
- Monitor and report on key operational metrics, using data insights to improve efficiency, minimize waste, and maintain product freshness.
- Mentor and guide operational teams, fostering capability building, accountability, and succession planning.
- Oversee resource allocation, cost management, and budgeting to achieve operational and financial targets.
- Ensure readiness for audits and certifications by embedding best practices in hygiene, safety, and cold chain compliance.
- Represent the operations function in strategic projects, transformation initiatives, and system implementations.
- Serve as a key point of escalation for operational challenges, driving timely resolutions while safeguarding service levels.
What It Takes
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in logistics or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity overseeing cold chain operations.
- Strong expertise in warehouse and transport management.
- Proven track record in driving operational improvements, cost optimization, and service excellence across large-scale logistics networks.
- Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory compliance, and certifications related to food safety and cold chain operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience leveraging data insights and technology to enhance performance.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop diverse teams.
- Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement abilities, capable of collaborating across multiple functions and external partners.
- Flexibility to manage dynamic operational requirements, including non-standard hours and travel when necessary.
